Special Certifications
Practice Management Institute® currently
offers three Certification Programs. Each of these programs is accredited by PMI.
As an industry leader in practice management education for physicians and their
staff, PMI is presently celebrating its 20th year. Our Certified programs began
in 1992 with development of our
Certified Medical Insurance Specialist (CMIS) program. In 1994 we developed
the
Certified Medical Office Manager (CMOM) program, and in 1998 began offering
the
Certified Medical Coder (CMC) program. At this point there are more than
2500 PMI Certified Professionals in the United States.
The objective of each certification program is two fold. The first is to provide a superior education in the respective area of medical practice management. The second objective is to provide graduates a means of demonstrating their enhanced level of expertise. Today, PMI’s Certified programs are a recognized mark of competent and ethical practice management skill.
Each of these programs involves extensive classroom time in conjunction with home study requirements in between classes. To receive conferment of the appropriate designation, participants must successfully complete a comprehensive final examination. After conferment of any PMI certification designation, graduates are required to act in their professional capacity in accordance with the specific “Standards of Conduct” associated with their designation. These “Standards of Conduct” are approved and maintained by PMI’s Advisory Board.
In order to maintain certification, designees are required to attend twelve hours of continuing education each year. They are not required to attend only PMI programs to meet this requirement. Designees seeking to verify their active status can do so through this website or by contacting PMI directly.
